Oh, they do some wine too
Placebo’s second album title “Without You I’m Nothing” always stuck me as a bit melodramatic, but that was before I became aware of Corks on Cotham Hill. It’s fair to say that without Corks, I would have to buy 95% of my home consumed beer via the internet. The little local off-licence is now in it’s 20th year (12th under the current management of Dominic and Rachel, an ex-chef and wine merchant respectively) and embodies everything that’s special about Cotham Hill (a mecca for passionate, independent businesses). Corks was always the place to go for Belgian beers, but over the last year or two, that range has expanded exponentially to include just about everything you might want from a burgeoning world beer scene. I’ll wager that’s in part due to Adam and Faith, beer enthusiasts who take on quality control in its most literal sense. Paired with Flinty Red, the little restaurant about 20 shops down the road, they run regular wine tasting and food pairing events which, I am pleased to say, will shortly extend to an evening of beer tasting. It is not at all melodramatic to suggest that without Corks, Bristol beer scene would be significantly worse off.
