Forget the appalling keg selection, this 17th century boozer, tucked away next to the Fleece and Firkin in Redcliffe, is all about Cask beer. It’s pretty obvious why they have won CAMRA Bristol & District pub of the year for the last two years running (and runner up the year before). Beers are mainly from the South West (although other regional beer festivals and guests are frequent), barely last more than a day a barrel due to the keen local office based clientele, and are perfectly kept. Despite the CAMRA seal of approval, this is no “Bishop’s Tadger” establishment either, styles are modern and varied due to the young team in charge. Also, one of the few pubs left to have a proper English pool table and a dart board. With discounts on beer for CAMRA card holders, it’s hard to see what else you need from a pub to be honest.
